Blood Orange & Grapefruit Superstar

It’s like a souped up Greyhound, minus the gin.

Green Chai Juice

Cinnamon? On a green juice?? Yep! This post is inspired by a juice I used to get at a downtown Seattle shop called The Juicy Café, and that combo sounded just as weird to me as it might be sounding to you right now. But, one sip and I was hooked. This recipe also calls for a sprinkle of Himalayan sea salt, and there’s just something about the flavor created from that, the celery—which plays a big part—and cinnamon that just works. And it’s a fun tweak that keeps the basic green juice from getting boring. Hope you love it as much as I do! M Green Chai Juice Ready in: 5 min Yeilds: One 10 to 12 ounce juice Ingredients: 1/2 cucumber 4 celery stalks, cut in half 1/2 apple 1/2 lemon w/peel sliced off Large handful of spinach (or other greens) 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Pinch of Himalayan sea salt Directions: Juice all produce together, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sea salt. TIP: Ball up the spinach and push it through the juicer either between the other …

Mocha Valencia

When I was a Starbucks barista, I loved making mocha Valencias because of the chocolate-y, orange-y, espresso-y aroma that would waft up from the cup when I swirled all those components together, but I always opted for a caramel macchiato or some sort of white chocolate mocha when I wanted to take my espresso-drinking experience to eleven. So, I probably wouldn’t have done a post about this particular coffee drink if a friend hadn’t requested it, but making one with a piece of orange zest—as opposed to a syrup like Starbucks does—was a bit of a game changer for me. This is how Seattle coffee shop, Cafe Ladro, makes them, but I’d never actually tried it for myself. It’s shocking how much flavor comes through with just a small piece! And I like that you can adjust the sweetness with this method—more orange doesn’t equate to a sweeter flavor—simply add sugar as you wish to create your own mocha Valencia adventure. I am now officially a fan. Will I turn you into one?? Enjoy! M Mocha …

Cranberry Cheer

Another mocktail for you—with some sugared holiday cheer! As always, I’d put money on the possibility that these things would be great with a shot of vodka…or perhaps gin on this one?? You’ll let me know? These have just the right amount of cranberry tang, and they look pretty stunning with those sugared cranberry garnish—those little guys are quite tasty, too. Enjoy! M Ingredients: 2 cups cranberries 2 cups sugar, divided 9 cups club soda or sparkling water Toothpicks or cocktail garnish spears (is that what you call those things??) Directions: Bring 1-1/2 cups of water and 1-1/2 cups of sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan. Cook until sugar is dissolved. Pour in cranberries, then remove from heat. Allow to sit for 30 minutes. To make sugared cranberries for garnishing: Using a slotted spoon, scoop out 3/4 to 1 cup of cranberries and place them on a cookie cooling rack with parchment paper below. Space them out so that they don’t dry clumped together. Let sit for 1 hour. Pour remaining 1/2 cup …

Pear Apple Zinger

I usually try to incorporate veggies into my juices, but every once in a while I just want a sweet liquid treat. The lemon in this juice keeps things from getting too sweet, while ginger gives it a little zing. And this one is 7-year-old, blond-pig-tailed, UW-fan-approved, as you’ll see below. I enlisted the help of one my favorite little friends for this post. Happy juicing! M Pear Apple Zinger Single Serving Ready in: 5 min Ingredients: 1 pear 1-inch piece ginger 1/2 apple 1/2 lemon Directions: Slice the rind off the lemon, and cut up fruit into pieces that fit the juicer tube. Juice it up. And put some muscle into it like my little friend. Check out the guns on that girl! 😉 Pour and enjoy! (By the way, how about that juice foam? I usually am not a fan, but with this one I think it looks really pretty!)

Caramel Macchiato

Treat Yo’ Self Two Thousand Fiftee-eeen! (You have to imagine Tom Haverford and Donna singing that, okay?) I was WAAAY late to the Parks and Rec party…like, didn’t-even-start-watching-it-until-it-the-series-was-over late. And while I was a little dissappointed in myself  (I’m usually pretty up-to-date, very familiar with, and generally all over any funny TV), after I’d watched the first episode, all I could be was excited…because, yeah, shame on me for taking so long, but also, lucky me—I had so much solid comedy ahead! Laughs for months to come! (It actually ended up being more like weeks, but that’s beside the point.) While Treat Yo’ Self Day has been around since 2011, Treat Yo’ Self 2015 (that’s today!) is my first opportunity to celebrate with the rest of the Parks and Rec-watching world. And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, two things: #1 I am so jealous because you still get to watch the whole series for the first time, and #2 Watch this video so you know what the deal is. Fragrances and “fine …
